With her partner Peter Armstrong, Karen makes exquisite bone china dinner and tea services, bedroom sets, vases and plates intricately decorated in classic English designs. Karen is a trained full size potter and a graduate of the Royal College of Art (as well as a fellow of the highly regarded, IGMA). Her interest in the dolls house world is familiar to many miniature artisans, kindled via a dolls house made by her brother-in-law for her nieces. This was fortuitous, as since leaving college about 16 years ago Karen's noticed that there hasn't been much call for full-sized potters. But in the dolls house world, "business is fantastic," and only in miniature can Stokesay Ware produce their wide range of designs. "Moulds take up a lot of space!" Strawberry Border is Stokesay Ware's latest design. When deciding on a new design Karen goes only for what she would like to own full sized with Spode being her favourite. Preparing a design takes several months, especially if it is being worked onto a new shape. This was the case with the new tureen for their latest design, Strawberry Border. Prototypes are always made to make sure that the desired design fits the proposed pot. No doubt Strawberry Border will prove as popular as their established lines. Its bold floral design dates back to the early 1800's. "It is a design found mostly in blue but then you can find any design in any colour," laughed Karen.
